Description of Art Paper

Art paper is a type of coated paper that enhances the whiteness, smoothness, and gloss of the paperboard. Its weight ranges from 70 to 250 g/m2, making it ideal for use in offset printed paper boxes, magazines, illustrated books, and brochures.

Coated paper has the advantage of having a highly smooth and glossy coated side surface, with the added benefit of being highly flexible and resistant to water for a short period of time. Smoothness is particularly important when the paperboard is used for printing, as a smoother surface will result in better image quality due to improved ink coverage.

Art paper is typically classified as either single-side coated (C1S) or double-side coated (C2S). There are several types of coated paper that can be used for brochure printing, but double-sided art paper is commonly used for producing brochures and magazines. This type of paperboard has a smooth and glossy printing surface that is perfect for booklet printing, resulting in a finished product that is both super glossy and eye-catching.

It’s important to note, however, that art paper is not resistant to high levels of moisture. When stored in a high-humidity environment for an extended period of time, it can become susceptible to mildew. Additionally, it should be protected from damage caused by exposure to direct sunlight.

The most popular and fashionable way to create a brochure is to use 300gsm high-grade art paper for the cover, finished with cold matte lamination. For the inside pages, double-sided printing on 200gsm art paper is recommended, treated with hot matte lamination and bound with glue rather than wire. A booklet finished in this way will have a top-grade feel and a fashionable design.

157gsm art coated paper is widely used in the paper packaging industry as wrapping paper for rigid cardboard gift boxes due to its smooth surface and excellent printing properties. After being printed with colorful artwork, it is then wrapped around thicker duplex paperboard to create a beautiful and fashionable gift box.

The surface finish on art paper could be glossy, and matt comes in oil varnishing as well as plastic film lamination, so does UV varnishing, hot foil stamping, and embossing. Both CMYK flexo printing and offset printing are suitable for art paper.
